Whitney began her career in America playing for her university side North Carolina Tar Heels, before being drafted 4th overall to the Chicago Red Stars in the 2010 WPS Draft. In 2011 she was transferred to Flash, where they won the championship and she was named defender of the year. She joined Liverpool from her most recent club, Pali Blues. Whitney has also represented the United States on two occasions. The 24-year-old centre-back has two international caps for the USA.
