We get the lowdown with Captain Vicky Jones on life on and off the football pitch
Any pre-match superstitions?
I don’t think I do, although I always make sure I re-tie my boots before kick-off and at the start of the second half. I don’t know if it’s a superstition or just a habit.
What do you eat before a game?
Usually either breakfast cereal or toast, followed by some Haribo in the changing rooms.
Who is your favourite ever football player?
Definitely Messi – he’s the best player in the world right now and great to watch.
Who has had the biggest influence on your career?
My parents as they always supported me, from driving me around to training when I was younger and watching every game I play in.
How old were you when you started playing football?
I was about eight when I started playing competitively for Halton Girls.
What has been your career highlight so far?
Representing Great Britain in World University Games in Serbia and World University Championship, both were amazing experiences.
What’s your favourite and least favourite part of training?
I would say best part is anything high tempo such as possession training and practice games. The worst part is the long discussions at the end of each training sessions when I’m cold and wanting to go home.
Are you good at any other sports?
When I was younger, I used to be good at cross country running, but gave it up as I got older and wanted to concentrate on my football. It’s great for fitness and stamina though.
What is your most-played song on your ipod at the moment?
Erm I would probably say a Rihanna song, I’m loving her new album
What is your favourite film?
Too many too choose from… the last film I went to see was Rise of Planet of the Apes, loved it, next on the list is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo if I can sit still for that long.
What are your favourite TV programmes?
I was a big fan of the soaps but I don’t really get the time to watch them now. Take Me Out’s a bit of a guilty pleasure at the moment, Celebrity Juice, CSI and Criminal Minds.
What were your best and worst subjects at school?
I really liked PE and English, and probably my least favourite was French.
What was your favourite ever holiday?
Anywhere that was hot and I could lie on the beach, or by the pool, and relax.
What is your most prized possession?
It’s not my most prized possession but I couldn’t live without my phone.
What are your pet hates?
Facebook or Twitter?
6 months ago I would have said facebook, now its twitter: @vickyjones88
What do you see yourself doing in ten years time?
At 33 - I have no idea and don’t really want to think that far ahead, but hopefully still involved in football and coaching.
