Liverpool and Everton play on ITV at children's hospice Claire House
Liverpool Ladies took on local rivals Everton in a mini derby at Wirral children’s hospice Claire House today, live on ITV.
The teams played a short 5-aside game on ITV’s flagship breakfast show, Daybreak, on a wider visit to Claire House.
TV presenter Gethin Jones was on hand to referee proceedings, while the Ladies were cheered on by Paralympic cyclist Rik Waddon, and children, parents and staff from the hospice. Junior footballers also took part in games with both teams.
The visit to Claire House was part of Daybreak’s Children’s Hospice Week, which aims to highlight the incredible work that volunteers, nurses and staff do at children’s hospices up and down the country.
Claire House Children’s Hospice provides respite, medical, end of life and bereavement care for children and young people up to 23 years old, and their families. The hospice looks after families from across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, West Lancashire and the Isle of Man. The hospice needs to fundraise £2.3 million every year to cover the cost of care.
Lauren Knights, from Claire House, said: “The girls from Liverpool Ladies did an amazing job during our Daybreak filming. Not only are the girls supporting Claire House and raising the profile of children’s hospices, we’re delighted to be able to help promote women in sport. No doubt the children and nurses at the hospice will be inspired!”
Liverpool Ladies defender Sam Chappell, said: “It was a great honour to be asked to take part in the show from Claire House today. It’s a fantastic facility which does so much to help children, and their families, at a time when they really need it.
“Today’s mini match against Everton was a nice warm up for the real derby next week, but it’s great that both teams can come together to support such a worthwhile cause.”
Aroon Clansey, Amie Fleming, Emily Gielnik, Sophie Jones, Sam Chappell and captain Vicky Jones formed the Liverpool Ladies team.
