Girls' football festival to take place in Liverpool ONE
The FA Girls’ Football Festival come to Liverpool ONE's Chavasse Park on Thursday 5 April.
The festival, which takes place from 11am - 4pm, will be attended by FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL) and international players, including Aroon Clansey and Cheryl Foster from Liverpool Ladies.
The stars of the league will be making an appearance ahead of the launch of the second season of the FA WSL on Easter Sunday 8th April, where Liverpool Ladies play Bristol Academy (2:00pm) at Skelmersdale United.
The FA Girls’ Football Festival supported by Continental Tyres, Sport England and UEFA, is a free programme aimed at encouraging girls to participate in football.
The initiative will visit at least 19 venues throughout England in 2012 providing hundreds of girls aged 5 – 17 with an exciting, interactive football experience.
All Festivals are available for girls and their families to turn up and join in on the day.
Those attending will take part in fun festival style activities combining football, lifestyle and music. Activities include interactive games and competitions, the ContiWarmUp programme, skills and drills with FA approved coaches, prizes and goodies for all and digital stations to entertain the girls during breaks from playing.
They will also have the chance to interact with top players from both Liverpool Ladies and Everton Ladies.
Kelly Simmons, The FA Head of National Game, said: “The FA Girls’ Football Festival is a fantastic platform for girls of all abilities to develop their skills and understanding of the game in a fun, friendly and engaging way. We want more girls up and down the country playing football and learning in an enjoyable environment, and we look forward to seeing them come along and have a great day with us.
We would also like to thank our partners in the programme; we are delighted to be working with Continental Tyres, Sport England and UEFA to be able to take this festival across the country and engage so many girls over coming months.”
With football now the number one female team participation sport in England, the aim of the festivals is to provide as many girls as possible with, first and foremost, a fun experience but also hopefully ignite an interest in the game that they will be able to develop through their local schools, clubs and County FA’s.
“We are delighted to be supporting this latest initiative from The FA to promote the Girl’s game in England” said Tim Bailey, Communications Manager at Continental Tyres.
“It is a natural extension to our existing commitment to women’s football through our continued support of The FA Women’s Super League and The FA WSL Continental Cup. The FA Girls’ Football Festival is key to ensuring continued growth in the sport amongst youngsters and is something we are proud to be a part of.”
